FAQs

What’s the purpose of Imagine Fox Cities?

It’s an opportunity to be more intentional about shaping the future of the Fox Cities— to improve our individual and collective well-being. This visioning process will also bring to light what our shared values are and how we can better align when it comes to making the Fox Cities an even more attractive place to live, work, raise a family, and grow old.

What defines well-being?

Each community defines well-being a little bit differently but most include general areas and feelings about basic needs, housing, safety, health care, meaningful work, lifelong learning, and more.

Who is behind the process?

The Imagine Fox Cities initiative was created by a group of community members, from across the Fox Cities, with a variety of backgrounds including representation from various ages, races and ethnicities, community sectors, genders, and various lengths of time living in the area.

What will be the result?

The results of this deep listening will culminate in an expression of common guiding values. The goal is not just a single written imagining statement but complementary ways to point to a shared desired future—stories and a shared narrative of where we are and where we’ve said we’d like to head. The work will enable development of a vision that can evolve and be used over generations — influencing and connecting contemporary decisions and actions with a long-term view.

How will the results be used?

The feedback we receive during the discovery phase will provide a clearer direction for Imagine Fox Cities. The goal is to understand where the Fox Cities is and a vision of where the Fox Cities should head. We will work hard to ensure that we develop a vision that can evolve and be used over time as well as one that is based on our shared values including our definition of well-being.

How are we defining Fox Cities?

Imagine Fox Cities is basing its definition of the Fox Cities as all those who live and/or work in the Fox Cities and surrounding area.

How CAN I get involved WITH IMAGINE FOX CITIES OR TAKE ACTION ON RACE AND BELONGING?

There are a number of ways individuals and organizations can get involved—and this is just a beginning.

How will this effort interact with other activities already occurring?

We are interested in reflecting the good work already occurring across the region, better understanding long-term aspirations, and working together to create opportunities reflected in the community’s vision.

How is Imagine Fox Cities being supported?

Many businesses and organizations have already shown their support for the Imagine Fox Cities initiative including the Appleton Alliance Church, Appleton Public Library, Bank of Kaukauna, Boldt, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, enVision Performance Solutions, Generative Local Community Institute, Kimberly-Clark, Lawrence University, Mike Weller & Associates, Miller Electric Mfg, NAI Pfefferle, Red Shoes, ThedaCare, Thrivent, United Way Fox Cities and US Venture.

How long will this community-wide project take?

What we are doing today will go far into the future. There are four phases and right now we are in phase one which is the discovery phase. Phase two is discerning and reflecting; phase three is convening and phase four is action. Again, we aim to develop a living agenda that will help guide discussions, decisions and actions over the next couple of generations.

How will we know what the community’s response or feedback was?

We plan to share the emerging vision and themes through a community-wide summit (more details to be available soon), as well as through the website. This initial vision will evolve over time—with data trends, stories, and opportunities to take action.
